Phoenix Coyotes? Who?

Although declaring bankrupcy, thinking about relocating, and being owned by the NHL, the Phoenix Coyotes are surprisingly playing well and winning games. Although getting shutout by the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday 2-0 the Coyotes have surpassed all expectations. Currently the Coyotes are in 4th place of the Western Conference and a mere 2 points behind 1st place. At the beginning of the season I did not expect anything from the Coyotes, but I guess i assumed wrong. Any thoughts?

  1. well kyle, i agree with you completely about your discussion regarding the recent success of the phoenix coyotes. i'm very interested to see them in the playoffs and if they can keep their play at this level. i think that they'll be a dangerous team in the NHL playoffs, especially if the face off against the new jersey devils. i think the young coyote forwards can give marty brodeur a rough time. any thoughts on that point kyle?

  2. Casey, I'm glad we see eye to eye on the recent success of the Coyotes. It is truly amazing what they have been able to do so far this season, especially with the distraction surrounding the team. I too am looking forward to following the team on their run to the Stanley Cup Finals. However, I don't think they will get there. As for facing the Devils in the playoffs I don't think it will happen. The only way the two teams would face each other would be in the Stanley Cup Finals. I do not think the Coyotes will make it simply because they only have one star, Shane Doan. Doan will produce in the playoffs because he always does. However, the other Phoenix players will have to continue to play exceptional if they want to make it to the finals. I believe the Sharks and Blackhawks have the best chance to make it to the finals out of the Western Conference. The Blackhawks are on fire right now and have Patrick Kane who in my mind will lead the team far. Nevertheless I believe the Sharks will win the Western Conference. The Sharks have 3 of the top 15 point leaders in the NHL (Joe Thorton, Patrick Marleau, Dany Heatley). Also, their experience will take them far in the playoffs. Thanks for posting Casey and look forward to reading more of your comments.

  3. This is just a great all around story. I mean you take a team that has been god awful for so many years and have beat up and pushed around. Then, right at their complete breaking point, the Coyotes, supported by the superior play of Russian goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, the feisty young team storm through the Western Conference. This is just a great story and I wish the best for the Coyotes and their potential buyers.

  4. Well Doc, as I told my good friend Casey Doyle a long time ago as I beat him in NHL with the previously mentioned Coyotes, they are a good hockey club. I appreciate your interest in a rising hockey team and your intelligent post.

  5. Thank you Dave for the appreciation of my post. Although video games are not real life they do give an accurate discription of a team's level of play. Good luck in your future hockey games.

  6. After watching the coyotes play they are a team that never quits. Although theyre season ended in a very good series with Detroit you could tell they were a scrappy team that had no quit in them. I was impressed.

  7. I was really surprised, yet happy that the Phoenix Coyotes did so well against the Redwings. I really believed that the Coyotes has a legitimate chance against them and would win the series. I am proud that it took them seven games to finish the series. It shows that the Redwings may not be the team to beat this yea.

  8. I agree with the last 2 comments. Although the Coyotes lost to the Wings they showed that even with a low payroll and one big name player a team can win. I was surprised to the Coyotes success and give them my congratultions on a great season.
